Whether you’re pounding the pavement, taking a swim, riding your bike, sweating it out at bootcamp or getting into your yoga flow, locals are embracing the dry season by exercising outdoors.
This one is for the yogis – we’ve sussed out the coolest outdoor yoga and pilates sessions to take in Darwin right now, and even better, some are for free!
Darwin Waterfront Asana Yoga
These FREE sessions run throughout the whole dry season (May to the end of October). Every Saturday morning from 8am to 9am, enjoy an asana yoga session including breath work and meditation on the Peninsula Lawns at Darwin Waterfront. These sessions are for all levels, and you need to BYO yoga mat or towel.
Pilates on the Grass
Does a pilates session overlooking Nightcliff Foreshore sound good to you? Pilates on the Grass is located at Nightcliff Pool every Tuesday and Thursday at 9am. The sessions are for all levels and cost $10 for non-members or $7 for pool members. BYO yoga mat or towel, and enjoy the outlook of the Arafura Sea! Why not finish up with a few laps of the pool too?!
Outdoor Yoga @ East Point
Vidya Yoga Retreat run outdoor yoga sessions at East Point Reserve daily from Tuesday through to Saturday. Breath in the fresh air and take in the epic views whilst enjoying a “fun exploration of yoga that includes breath, movement and the mind space”. Select your class and book via their website. And stay tuned for more information about their free Party Class, a “move flow style yoga-turned-ecstatic-dance party”! Dress code is “outrageous”, think Burning Man, Mad Max and retro.

Yoga By The Bay
This 50-minute Vinyasa flow style yoga is on every Saturday from 8:45am at Darwin Trailer Boat Club. Start your weekend by relaxing your mind and stretching your body overlooking the bay. Sessions by Karuna Yoga Wellness, cost is $10 at the door, BYO mat or towel.
Sunset Yoga on Nightcliff Foreshore
Enjoy the golden hour and watch the sun set over a session of strong flow yoga. These sessions are on every Saturday during the dry season from 5pm on the Nightcliff Foreshore opposite the Beachfront Hotel. Payment is donation based and sessions are open to all levels. BYO yoga mat or towel.
The Little Yoga Day Festival
On Saturday 21st June, this annual Darwin yoga festival celebrates the International Day of Yoga with four hours of yoga celebrations at George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. From 3pm, enjoy yoga flow, kirtan, meditation and other inspiring yoga wisdom sessions. There will even be dinner served at the event. Only 80 spots will be available, so keep an eye on this ticketed event here.
