THE LOCAL’S LIST: SHAUNY EDWARDS

Shaun Edwards – House Of Darwin

Welcome to the Local’s List!

This time, we get to see the Top End (and a cheeky little Red Centre mention) through the eyes of Shaun Edwards, a local Larrakia lad.

Shaun has been across the globe working with not-for-profits, but the pull of Darwin was too strong. (We don’t blame him!)

Shauny is the founder of House of Darwin – a social enterprise clothing brand that reinvests profits into social programs in remote indigenous communities.

What is your absolute favourite ‘Real Northern Territory’ location, and why?

Bawaka – It means ‘heaven on earth’.

A tropical oasis located on the shores of the Arafura sea in East Arnhem Land. A melting pot of wild crocodiles, white sand, and palm trees.

Who is the local artist you are most inspired by?

Franck Gohier – his unique childhood and Territory inspiration which meets Andy Warhol + Basquiat style gets me every time.

Franck Gohier
Franck’s work for the 2020 Darwin Street Art Festival

When you go to the Markets, which stall do you visit first?

Straight for the watermelon juice. Every time!

Do you have your own local’s tip that you’re happy to reveal?

Park in the loading zone in Austin Lane – Not one parking ticket for 2020!

What makes Darwin ‘home’ to you?

The realisation of our insignificance.

Thanks Shauny!
