Cocktail hour: Darwin poolside bars

Sometimes, you just need to know where to go to get a cocktail and go for a swim. Darwin has some awesome poolside cocktail bars, and we’ve scouted some of the best, for every part of your weekend.

COSSIES POOLSIDE BAR AND BISTRO

It’s somewhere you might go when you’re about to leave for a holiday – but you’d be forgiven for not knowing that the Mecure Airport Hotel’s own tropical paradise is awaiting you for a holiday at home! The relaxed poolside bistro, Cossies, is family-friendly – and aptly named so you don’t forget your cossies!

The ability to dine indoors or out and the view of the pool and gardens makes you truly feel on holidays. It’s the perfect spot for a Friday knock-off swim, or a Saturday lazy day. As far as cocktail recommendations go – they have an extensive menu – but our pick is the Tropical Breeze!

MINDIL BEACH CASINO RESORT – INFINITY

INFINITY is the most ‘beach club’ of Darwin’s pool bars – the combination of an infinity pool overlooking Darwin’s most iconic beach, and a row of palm trees, gives you the ultimate cocktail-sipping, sun-soaked experience.

Located at the casino and surrounded by other bars, restaurants and a beautiful grassed area that commonly holds events – you can grab a wristband which acts as your bar tab, and settle in for the day. With beats playing from the pools DJ decks – it’s a definite Saturday afternoon vibe. Try the signature INFINITY cocktail served in a fresh coconut, or the Pina Colada in a – you guessed it – pineapple!

One of Darwin’s local haunts for a Sunday Sesh – the Cavenagh Hotel has kicked LOVE LIFE Sunday’s back off with a bang. Right in the CBD, the Cav is an unassuming pub from the front – but through the gates is a classic pool bar!

The Cav is a known weekend recovery session on a Sunday – featuring great cheese boards, large TV’s that are often playing the sport, and DJs – all you need is a cocktail, and they have plenty of those too!
