Some of Darwin’s best breakfast and brunch places are hiding in plain sight – and what’s a weekend, a holiday, or a catch-up with friends without a funky café or a delicious brunch…
We’ve broken it down into places in the city, cafes with a view, funky menus for that something different – and cafes that are simple & classic.
BREAKFAST AND BRUNCH IN THE CITY…
A cute courtyard and a convenient location on Smith Street. Whether you’re looking for a breakfast or brunch in Darwin city – Ray’s have the usual selections of a trendy cafe – muesli, breakfast burgers, eggs on toast, healthy bowls, and sweet things – but our absolute fave is the loaded croissant! Treat yourself!!
The 1995
With a recent menu addition after only doing coffee and pastries for a year – the 1995 keeps it simple and delicious, get the smashed avocado!
You’ll find them on the corner of Knuckey St and Austin Lane, and they do a great smoothie, acai bowl, and fresh juice if you’re feeling like you need some health in your life!
Situated right in a new space on the end of the mall, the Rabbit Hole is perfect for a good meal to fuel you for your day ahead, or a break in perusing the local shops!
BRUNCH WITH A VIEW
One of the best views in town – the quiet little café joining the Museum & Art Gallery of the NT is a hidden gem. The breakfast menu is broad and there are a wide range of choices – we went with Peter’s special chilli scrambled eggs, and the eggs benedict – both great sized meals, fresh and flavoursome. Both winners!
A local favourite and an iconic view! They have a great selection of food and good coffee, and even better – wear your activewear – this beachside cafe in Nightcliff is perfect for breakfast before or after a walk along the foreshore. It is one of the few that serve food all day – so is also a great choice for a late brunch/lunch!
De La Plage is the ultimate cafe to soak up Darwin’s outdoor lifestyle – with an extensive (4 page) menu and a unique grassed area / picnic / decking / swings seating situation – it’s the chilled out vibes you didn’t know you needed on your weekend brunch!
There’s nothing more relaxing than being in a beautiful garden for breakfast, and it’s a great way to do two activities in one hit, and check out the Botanic Gardens too! While Eva’s have a fantastic menu of all your favourites… you almost HAVE to get the scones. Trust us!
BREAKFAST AND BRUNCH WITH A DIFFERENCE
A menu that lists food under the categories ‘what you really want’, ‘what you came for’ and ‘what you should have’ is a menu we want to keep going back for!
With everything from a smashed avo to Huevos Rancheros and French toast to lamb taco for breakfast – we want it all!
Found behind an apartment building in Parap’s Salonika Street – Karma Cafe is certainly a hidden gem! Again a cafe focused on health – smoothie bowls, protein snacks and meal prepped meals… but our favourites are the smoothie bowl special flavours… like Biscoff…
A popular haunt on the Stuart Highway, right next to F45 and the home to trendy Darwin boutique Skin – Sweet Brew & Co serve classics with a twist, and it’s the perfect menu of all the best breakfast food, all the best lunch food, and everything in between (like salted caramel pannacotta!).
A hearty Singapore menu with Congee breakfast bowls, Kaya Toast, and a regular assortment of special cakes and treats! Breakfast with a twist, and delicious coffee!
Another hidden gem – Yogi’s is modern Australian with a Nepalese Asian twist! You’ll find it on a little shopping street in Stuart Park. If you’re not feeling adventurous they have a relatively standard (but still delicious) Yogi’s Way breakfast menu – but read on, and you’ll see they have the Fusion Way, the Authentic Way, and the Vegan/Vegetarian Way – so many options!
A BREAKFAST MENU FOR EVERYONE
From the team that brings you Besser Brew Bar & Kitchen, Laneway in Parap is equally as great. Our favourite breakfast is the Nourish your soul bowl – it’s like they put all of the ‘tastes good’ AND the ‘good for you’ in a bowl – kale, turmeric hummus, and coleslaw… andddd arancini balls and halloumi and pita bread!!! THE BEST!
With an always delish assortment of pastries, a great menu of both classics and unique menu items, and good coffee – you can’t go wrong at this Coconut Grove cafe! They even do vegan pastries!
