A guide to Darwin’s best croissants

There are not many greater mornings that can be had than that of a fresh, melt in your mouth pastry that goes perfectly with a coffee and a chat – it is HARD to say no to a croissant.

Our down south friends tell us that they can not find croissants like the ones we have here, and we tend to agree. So we’ve done the really hard part for you – eaten alllll of the croissants – to get you a list of Darwin’s best croissants.

Ruby G’s – Almond Croissant & VEGAN CROISSANT

Whether you’re heading to the Mitchell Street locale, the trendy Coconut Grove warehouse cafe, or the market stall at the Parap Markets – one thing is for sure – Ruby G’s do a mean Almond Croissant.

The PERFECT amount of crisp pastry to gooey centre ratio, sliced almonds, and sprinkled with a dash of icing sugar, you absolutely can not go wrong.

Ruby G’s have also recently ventured into Vegan Pastry territory – meaning those who are lactose intolerant or dairy free can finally enjoy the pastry goodness too – and they taste JUST as good as a regular croissant!

Trader Bar – Nutella Croissant

This trendy little garden bar on the outskirts of the Darwin CBD is a favourite for a cocktail – yet it’s possible that our favourite time to visit is still actually on weekend mornings, when they open for coffee and croissants! HEAVEN!

Our highly recommended option is the buttery, hazelnutty goodness that is the Nutella Croissant – it’s the weekend, treat yourself!

Rays Patisserie and Cafe – Loaded Croissant

If sweet croissants aren’t your jam (pun intended!), we did some investigating for the savoury lovers too! You absolutely can not go past Rays Patisserie and Cafe on Smith Street for their Loaded Croissant.

As the name suggests, they bake everything themselves – and the loaded croissant is everything that is good about a big breakfast – bacon, eggs, halloumi, hollandaise sauce… but in a delicious, flaky toasted croissant. I’ll take 10!!

Ray’s Loaded Croissant (added speck!)

Known for it’s authentic Pizza, Alfonsino’s on Mitchell Street also make geniune Italian Pastries – all baked on site and all TO DIE FOR.

The Almond cornetto is great – but our go to is a Chocolate Croissant…. for breakfast!
